Freelance interim manager, business analyst, system designer, system developer, trainer.

Also AS400 specialist (RPGLE, SQLRPG and SQLRPGLE), DB400, SQL, CL. Query400 and AS400 database implementation

After finishing the locally highly esteemed VOLMAC Top Training RPG programmer’s course of 3 months in 1980 I started working as a programmer. From there on and after finishing a lot of relevant courses I became a systems-analyst, functional designer and finally business-analyst.

I have 30 years of experience designing and developing computerised information systems.

As a business analyst I regularly act as technical project leader in various projects and have also been an interim manager with various software-houses and computer departments.

I also have years of experience giving commercial courses for the AS400 and Jackson Structured Programming, business analysis, system development and database design techniques.

In short: I can be contracted to model the business flows and produce the functional specs (as Data Flow Diagrams for activities and Bachman diagrams for the relevant data model) which will be used for the technical design of the final products, the programs and databases. And if the system has to be build in RPG, I can do that too.

Centerparcs Rotterdam

business analyst

Centerparcs started to experience database performance problems and I was asked to look into this. As the technical database has been developed continuously over the past 20 years bottom up/build on, I started with the extraction of the logical data model pictured as a Bachman entity diagram. I needed two 4-hour sessions with people from the business, and a white board, to create the perfect model that could support any imaginable Centerparcs transaction. In the next phase I will be comparing the physical database with the theoretical model to look for any possible improvements in the way data is stored and accessed

January 2004 - December 2004 (80%)

Utrecht City Council

business analyst

Project extracting, concentrating and storing of data from various JD Edward (JDS) and FMS Administrations. Recently Utrecht has moved to 1 completely new administrative system (hardware and software) for all their departments. In the past, 12 departments used 4 different systems and no historical data was converted to the new system. In order to comply with the legal requirement that data from the last 7 years has to be kept available, all the old software and hardware were kept in use alongside the new system. This meant that the council had to keep on paying all the licence fees. In 2003 it was decided to extract the required data, store it on an intranet server and to discontinue the old systems. My work in the project is to analyse for each department what they want to keep in history and to extract and form the data. I performed the extractions using SQL.

May 2003 - October 2003

VGZ Health Insurance in Eindhoven

business analyst

VGZ were going to move their administration from their own main frame to a completely new ORACLE application. VGZ did not want a conversion from old to new but decided to process their business concurrently on both systems during a transition period. Old customers would still be processed in the old system while new customers would be registered and processed in the new one. Eventually the old system would die. I was asked to analyse the case and to make a functional design for an application that routes the incoming bills to the right system. This is very complicated as bills come from different directions like Internet, on paper and on diskette/tape. Bills can be handed in by the client himself or the supplier of the service (doctor, hospital, pharmacy etc) for the customer. Suppliers usually hand in bathes of bills while a batch can have clients from the old or the new system at random.
Another complication was that VGZ where handling the intake of bills for another insurance company and these bills where mixed in the batches with VGZ bills match this with the legal requirements

January 2003 - May 2003

Koopman International Trade Company Amsterdam

technical system designer and system developer

Designing and developing software on IBM AS400 in RPGLE and RPGSQLLE

August 2002

Code511 Paris

business analyst

Security report for a service provider of an office rental administration as a part of an ISO Certification. CODE511 does the reporting for the ISO-certification and hired me for the. Software/hardware part of the report. The customer provides complete administrative support for investors (banks, insurance Companies) owning property. The provider takes care of the administration, collects the rent and does everything that needs to be done, the investor receives the rent and has no other involvement with the property.
As the provider runs the administrations of several investors on 1 machine with the same software it is important for the investors to know that there can never be a mix up of data in the machine. As the investors can access their data through telephone lines it is important to make sure they cannot touch data of other investors. I analyzed all these aspects and also the working procedures of the provider and the physical security at the computer centre.
